My Internship
Internship Log
December 11, 2014
This was the last day of intern at my specific department. Because Mamie was not here, we went to the top supervisor, Allen. Rather than doing the usual tasks, he talked to us about our experience and how grateful he had been of having us there. I then realized that I will miss the atmosphere which was filled of hard-working people who treated me in a friendly manner filled with sense of humor.
December 5, 2014
Today as soon as we arrived, we got to work by stocking the sinks with masks and other supplies. This time, there was enough supplies to go around the entire sinks in the operating room. Our supervisor, Mamie, came with us, and asked her many questions about this specific department and their employees.
December 3, 2014
Today after returning from the break, we resumed to stocking the sinks again and noticed that in the backroom, there was a shortage of the various types of masks. I felt guilty that I wasn't able to stock as much as I could due to the lack of supplies.
November 20, 2014
Today when we arrived, our volunteer coordinator asked us if we wanted to stay at the intern site that we had been assigned to in the beginning of the year, and responded that after the break I would love to change departments. I always enjoy a change and in a hospital there is so much to learn and explore.
November 14, 2014
Today we stocked the sinks with masks, sponges, and soap. This is always a pleasure to do yet it is a routine at this point. Because there was nothing much to stock, we then counted an Omnicell. I was surprised to know that there was bandages in this specific Omnicell because last spring, I had a minor paper cut and there was no where to access one.
November 12, 2014
Today there was a meeting at our department that involved outsiders and the people who we directly work with. As a result the secretary had us sitting at the lounge until the meeting was over. This was not fun to do for 30 minutes, and would have been preferable to have been told before hand so I could have helped at Volunteer Services.
November 7, 2014
Because mostly everything was done before we got there, we had a slow day that consisted of taking out the cardboard out to the dumpster, stocking the sterile core with gowns and packages. In the last thirty minutes we were able to out-date products from two cabinets.
November 5, 2014
Today we went around the operating rooms and stocked the sinks with masks and any other additional supplies. We also went around and stocked the drawers with isolation gowns. We also filed some papers by date.
October 30, 2014
My day at intern was productive as i was able to fill up two carts of supplies that needed to be sent from the dock to the Supply Chain. When finally taking the products to the backroom and taking them out from the box. We then filled up the sinks with materials that were needed for the weekend.
October 24, 2014
I arrived to my department to see my supervisor loading up a cart that then became my task of the day. I was asked to go around the operating room hallways and stock all the sinks with necessary materials. I then got to check the status of a binder full of orders. Since there was a Halloween luncheon, I was offered to take the left overs that I wanted.
October 22, 2014
Today I went with the other student volunteer downstairs to the dock to pick up several deliveries. We then took them upstairs and organized them to ensure that they got to their destination. For the remaining time, we were able to check the expiration dates on three carts located in the back of the sterile core.
October 15, 2014

October 9, 2014
Today we got to count an Omni Cell at the Operating Room 2, which was dental products. We then outdated products in a drawer and then organized the products by expiration date.
October 3, 2014
We arrived late to our intern site due to the effects that the train system had suffered of the previous day's storm. At the volunteer office, I had to complete my reorientation for this year. When arriving to the Supply Chain, I stocked several drawers with gowns inside. For the rest of the time, I was assigned to put information in an Excel spreadsheet.
October 1, 2014
When we got to the Supply Chain, we were assigned to stock several products at the Sterile Core. For the remaining time that we stayed there, we counted an Omni Cell at the Ortho Surgery Room.
September 25, 2014
With my partner being here, Mrs. Brown gave us a detailed tour of the place and the procedures that we must follow. We then filled out papers that will go in file. For the remaning of the time, we outdated products in the backroom.
September 19, 2014

September 17, 2014
Today was the first day of intern for me. At the volunteer services office, I had to fill out some paperwork and do a brief EMTLA training. Afterwards, I got told where I have to report for the new few weeks. The Operation Room Supply Chain.
September 11, 2014
Today was the trial run to see which trains to catch and where to ensure that I arrive at Children's at two o'clock. Since they were not expecting us to intern that day, I waited in the lobby for my mother to pick me up while reviewing the paperwork that I had to have to intern again.
